Elementor Themes: How to create your own theme

by Pramith

Elementor Themes can be created without code. The Elementor Pro version offers you a tool that makes this possible.

Create Elementor Themes: Possibilities

If you want to create a theme for WordPress without having to code, the easiest way to do so is with the WordPress builder Elementor.

  • The paid version Elementor Pro includes a tool called “Theme Builder”. This allows you to prefabricate pages that you can use again and again on the website. Elementor in this case costs about $49 a year for a website (as of June 2023).
  • If you have Elementor installed, you will see the Theme Builder in the dashboard on the left side under “Templates ☻ Theme Builder”.
  • If you are working with Elementor, you will need a base theme, such as the Hello theme, Astra theme or GeneratePress theme. Here you set the global Customizer options, such as the typography, colours, and header and footer settings.
  • To make your theme complete, you need to create certain templates that you can use over and over again. These include the header and footer, the 404 page, a default page, a default blog post, a search results page and an archive page. Pop-ups or loop-items can also be included.

How to create your Elementor theme: instructions

To create a theme on Elementor, follow these steps:

  • Install the base theme: Install one of the base themes that are compatible with Elementor.
  • Create themes: Now go to “Templates ☻ Theme Builder” and click on one of the pages you want to create. It is best to work your way systematically, starting with the header and then creating the other pages.
  • As soon as you want to edit a template, Elementor suggests ready-made templates that you can use and adapt for yourself. Note, however, that these do not allow many changes. If you don’t want to use any, you can also start from scratch.
  • Save template: Once you are happy with the design, save your template. You will now be prompted to add conditions. These are necessary so that Elementor knows on which pages it should display the template and on which it should not.
