How to change the background in Microsoft Teams
You can change your background during video conferences in Microsoft Teams with just a few clicks. To do this, first start a meeting.
- Click More in the menu bar of the meeting window. You can also recognise this function by an icon with three dots (see picture).
- Select the item Background Effects in the menu that opens. On the right edge of the window you can now choose from various background options.
- Decide on a background here and click on it. The selected background will now be inserted “behind” you. Confirm your selection by clicking on the Apply button.
Soften background for Business Calls
If you want to protect your privacy during video conferences via Microsoft Teams and do not want to give colleagues a glimpse into your private home, you can place a photo background behind you or use the “Blur Background” function of Microsoft Teams instead.
- Also during a meeting, click on More in the menu bar and then Background Effects.
- Do not select an image, but the Blur function at the top. Confirm with the Apply button.
My own backgrounds in Microsoft Teams meetings
Microsoft Teams also offers the possibility to use your own backgrounds in meetings. Here’s how to set a background of your own choosing for your next meeting:
- During a meeting, click More on the menu bar. From the menu, select Background Effects from
- Now select + Add New at the top. You can now select a locally saved image and then set it as the background with the Apply button. Before doing so, you can also use the preview function to make sure that the image looks as expected.
- Note: The function to add your own images may not be available on all systems. In case of problems, make sure you are using the latest version of Microsoft Teams.
