Minecraft Industrialcraft 2: Tutorial for beginners

by Pramith

The Industrial Revolution has reached Minecraft. This modification brings a whole lot of new machines and blocks into the game through the electric current

1.) Industrialcraft – First Step: Crafting Cables

The most important requirement to start in Industrialcraft is to craft cables.

  • Cables connect the power generator to the consumer machine and can be found in many crafting recipes. The raw material rubber is needed to make the cables.
  • Rubber trees have been specially integrated into the game for this purpose. You can recognise them by the dark colour of their trunks. They are most common in the forest, taiga and swamp biomes. Random resin spots generate on the trunk blocks, which are easily recognisable by their orange colour.
  • Now you need the “Treetap” to harvest this resin, which is called “Sticky Resin” in the game. To do this, arrange 5 wooden boards as shown in the picture on the right to get the tool. Left click on the resin spots to mine them.
  • However, this is not yet a usable rubber. You still have to fire the resin in the oven. For the time being, you should fire at least 6 pieces of rubber.
  • To do this, open the workbench and fill the top and bottom rows with the rubber items. In the middle row you need 3 copper ingots. You will find out how to get them in the second paragraph. When they are complete you can take out 6 copper cables.

2.) Find and mine the new ores

A total of 4 new ore veins can be found in the mines. These are copper, lead, tin and uranium. You will need all of these for the cables and machines of Industrialcraft 2.

  • Copper ore is the easiest to discover. From height level 70 and lower, you can find the dark-orange metal. It generates in clusters of up to 10 blocks and you can already mine it with the stone pickaxe.
  • You can also get lead (below height level 65) and tin (below height level 40) with the stone pickaxe. But beware: There is a high risk of confusion with these two metals, as they both have a slightly whitish shine.
  • Uranium is necessary for the generation of nuclear energy in the advanced gameplay. You will find the green ore below a height level of 64 and have to mine it with at least one iron pickaxe. After that, uranium drops as a lump.
  • The other 3 ores drop as a whole block and have to be burned into ingots in the furnace before you can use them in technical equipment.

3.) Make your first machines from Industrialcraft 2

As the name Industrialcraft suggests, the highlight of the mod is making a machine.

  • The “Electric Furnace” plays an important role. In this, items are no longer fired with raw material-heavy fuels such as wood or coal, but with electricity.
  • The electric furnace is crafted with an iron furnace in the middle, a redstone to the left and right of each, and an “electric circuit” above.
  • To build an electric circuit, follow the crafting recipe in the graphic to the right. The iron furnace is quite simple to obtain. Fill the crafting surface with iron ingots except for the middle square.
  • Many devices can serve as energy suppliers for the electric furnace. The simplest is probably the generator, which in turn draws energy from raw materials. Alternative power sources are the solar panel, which concentrates solar energy, or a nuclear power plant, for example. You can also use power sources from other Minecraft mods here.
  • In addition, there are a lot of other things to discover in Industrial Craft. Besides many machines, there are also new armour items, liquids and consumables. It’s best to test out a lot of things.
