Samsung TV: Clearing the cache – these are the options

Clear the cache of your Samsung TV to improve the performance of the device. There are several ways to do this

Clearing the Samsung TV cache: Use device maintenance

You can clear the cache automatically via the integrated device maintenance. This feature can theoretically be found in all Samsung TVs from recent years. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • Start the TV and go to the settings on the home screen. These can be found in the main menu via the cogwheel symbol.
  • In the settings, navigate to the Support tab. There you will find the Device maintenance option. Select this option
  • Start the process by selecting Start device maintenance. The Samsung TV then carries out a diagnosis and displays it to you.
  • You will receive a list of all problems. These include, for example, memory problems due to a full cache.
  • You can then delete the cache via device maintenance by selecting the Manage memory option. Then select the app whose cache you want to delete
  • Now you can clear the cache of the respective app. Repeat this with other applications to free up memory.
  • Tip: On many Samsung TV models with Smart Hub, you will find an option to clear the cache directly in the settings. Alternatively, reset Smart Hub via Support and self-diagnosis

Clear Samsung TV cache: Other methods

If the device maintenance was not helpful, there are other methods to clear the cache of your Samsung TV:

  • For many models, it is sufficient to switch off the TV, disconnect it from the power supply for 20 seconds and switch it on again. This often resets the cache
  • For other Samsung TVs, you must delete the browser data within the HbbTV settings. You will find this option in the Broadcasting tab under Expert settings.
  • Alternatively, open the settings via the home screen and then select an app that is causing problems. You can now clear the app’s cache directly by clicking on Clear cache
  • If this still does not help, you should reset the TV. To do this, use the Reset option within the self-diagnosis. Now you only need to enter your PIN and confirm the reset
  • Attention: If you reset your Samsung TV to the factory settings, not only the cache will be cleared. All configurations you have made, as well as installed applications, favorites, channels and saved data will also be deleted.
