I’ve had my own experience with ChatGPT. Everyone’s talking about this bot, and of course I wanted to find out what all the hype is about.
My Experience with ChatGPT
ChatGPT is supposed to be helpful for summarizing and translating texts, finding arguments on specific topics, and generally experimenting with language. That’s why I wanted to “chat” with the chatbot myself.
- I was particularly interested in how factually accurate, meaningful, or creative ChatGPT’s responses are. Regarding the former, I can only say: ChatGPT’s knowledge is limited to the year 2021, and the bot generates statements based on probabilities. That doesn’t mean it provides correct answers. Therefore, these should be taken with a grain of salt. I found it interesting that the AI repeatedly points out how it generates its statements and that one should never completely trust them.
- I also didn’t find the results to be meaningful. I never felt that the arguments for discussions on certain topics were compelling enough to convince me or others. I also noticed that ChatGPT starts repeating itself relatively quickly and, even then, keeps pointing out that you shouldn’t believe it. For that reason, I certainly wouldn’t share any personal or business data with the bot. Anyone who thinks they can quickly get a well-founded summary of an article is, in my opinion, mistaken, because the quality of the answers has consistently been poor and monotonous.
- Artificial intelligence is also frequently associated with creativity. Just like the term “intelligence,” however, “creativity” is a fragile and subjective concept. In any case, I found ChatGPT’s responses to be anything but creative. To me, an imaginative short story generated by the chatbot sounds like nothing more than a boring string of clauses, and a poem comes across exactly as what it is: a construct of words based on probabilities. When I want to hear something poetic about love, words like “heart,” “joy,” or even “sorrow” often come up.
My Conclusion on ChatGPT
I had the cheers of enthusiasm from some and the frightening doomsday scenarios from others ringing in my ears as I explored ChatGPT.
- I just don’t get all the hype. Of course, a chatbot like this is certainly a breakthrough in AI research. But for me personally, ChatGPT doesn’t change anything.
- I don’t feel like the bot could take over all my writing without me having to constantly check its output. Not to mention that I would never pass off text generated by AI as my own.
- Nor am I worried that the AI’s texts would be on par with mine or even surpass them, to the point where people like me could be replaced by ChatGPT.
- Nor do I have the impression that ChatGPT will seize world domination and destroy humanity. It may be artificial intelligence, but it doesn’t seem that advanced to me.
- But maybe I’m simply not intelligent enough to recognize ChatGPT’s true potential. Perhaps I’ll be proven wrong in just a few years. As things stand now, however, I have neither high hopes nor concerns that the chatbot will change anything.
