Samsung vs. Google Pixel – How the Android smartphones differ

by Corinna

In the Samsung vs. Google Pixel duel, some fundamental differences quickly catch the eye. Both manufacturers also launched new top models of their smartphones in 2022. At the same time, the respective model series have their own advantages.

Samsung Galaxy vs. Google Pixel

Samsung has been one of the best-known smartphone manufacturers for some time now. The Galaxy S series is classically that of the flagships. Since 2013, Google has also been offering its own phones, the Pixel models. The two manufacturers bring different features to their smartphones.

  • User interface: Even though both series are based on Android, Samsung uses its own One UI system, which, among other things, provides its own colour options and displays of apps and notifications.
  • Cameras: While Samsung has installed three cameras on the back of its S-series models since the Galaxy S10 (released in 2019), Google has mostly equipped its smartphones with two cameras on the back since the Google Pixel 4 (also in 2019). Only the Pixel 6 Pro and 7 Pro received an additional telephoto camera.
  • Model versions: Since the Galaxy S20, Samsung has always had a Plus and an Ultra version in addition to the base model. These differ in terms of size, battery capacity and cameras, among other things. Since the Pixel 6, Google has also brought a Pro version in addition to the basic version, as well as a cheaper a version since the Pixel 3. Up until the Pixel 4, there was an XL version.

Samsung Galaxy S22 vs. Google Pixel 7

Samsung introduced a new model in the S series in early 2022 with the Galaxy S22. Google followed suit later in the year with the Pixel 7. You should know the differences between the two smartphones before you decide to buy one of the two top phones.

  • Display: The screen of the Galaxy S22 is 6.1″, taking into account the rounded corners, it is effectively 5.9″. Google gives a diameter of 6.3″ for the display of the Pixel 7. The Samsung smartphone has a resolution of 2340 by 1080 pixels, while the Google Pixel has 2400 by 1080 pixels.
  • Battery: The battery capacity of the Galaxy S22 is 3700 mAh. You get the Google Pixel 7 with a 4,355 mAh battery.
  • Cameras:You get the Samsung smartphone with three cameras on the back, a 50 megapixel main camera, a 10 MP telephoto camera and a 12 MP ultra wide-angle camera. There is also a 10 MP front camera. The Pixel 7 has a 50 MP main camera and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera on the back, as well as a 10.8 MP front camera. So the Samsung brings you one more lens in total.
  • Video: With the Samsung Galaxy S22, you can film in 8k at 24 fps. With the Google Pixel 7, 4k videos with up to 60 fps are possible. However, this difference hardly matters, especially for recordings in your free time. Slow-motion recordings could be more exciting. With up to 960 fps (in HD), the S22 can record significantly slower slow-motion than the Pixel 7 (240 fps).
  • Price: You can get the Samsung Galaxy S22 with 128 GB memory for 799 euros. The 256 GB version costs 849 euros. For the Google Pixel 7, you pay 649 euros (128 GB) or 749 euros (256 GB). (as of 12/2022) The RAM is 8 GB for both manufacturers and all memory variants.
  • Dimensions: The Galaxy S22 measures 146 mm by 70.6 mm by 7.6 mm and weighs 167 grams. The Pixel 7 is 155.6 mm by 73.2 mm by 8.7 mm and weighs 197 grams.
  • Model versions: If the standard versions are not enough for you, you can still look at the Galaxy S22+ and the S22 Ultra at Samsung. These differ mainly in terms of housing and battery size, as well as in terms of cameras (in the case of the S22 Ultra). Google offers the Pixel 7 Pro in addition to the Pixel 7. In addition to a larger casing, this has a higher resolution (3120 by 1440 pixels).
