Destiny 2: All info on crossplay

by Johannes

Crossplay has been available in Destiny 2 since the beginning of 2021 and makes it possible to play with friends on other platforms. The use of the crossplay mode raises questions about the activation and matchmaking for many players

Crossplay in Destiny 2: Activate and invite friends

Destiny 2 offers crossplay on all platforms. This includes the Windows, PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as the Xbox One and Series X/S versions. The mode is enabled by default.

  • Only the console versions allow the deactivation of the crossplay mode. This is not possible on Windows.
  • To disable crossplay on Xbox consoles, you must go to the Xbox Privacy menu on your console. Under the menu item View and adjust details you will find Communication & Multiplayer. There you will find the option to disable crossplay for all games.
  • If you want to invite friends on other platforms, this is possible via the Bungie name. Within the invite tab in-game or via the Bungie web portal, you can search for your friends’ Bungie name and invite them.
  • You can accept invitations from your friends in the same way. You can then manage your squads and clans in the game as long as crossplay is activated.

Destiny 2: Crossplay PvP matchmaking in detail

Crossplay determines which systems interact with each other during PvP matchmaking in Destiny 2.

  • When it comes to competitive game modes like “Crucible”, the players are divided into PC and console groups. This means that only PlayStation and Xbox players can play together. PC players keep to themselves.
  • Crossplay is possible in all other PvP modes. Crossplay must be activated for the “Trials of Osiris” mode.
  • If you do not want to use crossplay, you will be playing with players on the same platform. These are exclusively players who have also disabled crossplay.
