Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Is there multiplayer & crossplay?

by Mike

In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you will once again explore the vast land of Hyrule. For multiplayer & crossplay, however, it looks bad.

This is the state of multiplayer & crossplay in Tears of the Kingdom

Just like its predecessor Breath of the Wild, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is not doing well with multiplayer and crossplay features.

  • As with Breath of the Wild, players can once again look forward to a huge open world worth exploring. Features such as the scanning of Amiibo figures are also represented again. In the meantime, Amiibos can even be simulated with a mobile phone.
  • Although the idea of making Hyrule unsafe together with friends in multiplayer probably appeals to many, it is not possible in reality, at least not at the time of the game’s release.
  • A glimmer of hope remains, however, because for the predecessor Breath of the Wild there were various DLCs over the years that expanded the game. Even though these were not multiplayer modes, it is not completely out of the question that player expansions are also planned for Tears of the Kingdom.
  • Because Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a Switch exclusive game, it will be sold exclusively for the Switch. While you will be able to play the game on various Switch consoles, in both docked and handheld modes, it will not be released for other platforms such as the PC, PS5 or Xbox Series X, or have cross-play functionality.
