Alexa glows orange – that’s what’s behind it

by Pramith

When your Alexa voice assistant’s ring glows orange, it indicates an active setup or searching for an internet connection

Alexa glows orange in setup mode

The ring of your Echo voice assistant with Alexa then lights up orange when you set it up for the first time. The colour is thus a visual indication that the setup process has begun and has not yet been completed.

  • So you still need to follow the further steps and set up Alexa completely.
  • Once you have set up Alexa, the glow will automatically stop.
  • So Alexa will glow orange even if you intentionally or accidentally reset it to factory settings.
  • Danger of confusion: Alexa can also glow yellow, which looks quite similar but has a completely different meaning.

WLAN search – Alexa also lights up orange here

Alexa also lights up orange when it is currently connecting to your WLAN network.

  • If the glow stops on its own, you don’t need to do anything else. Alexa has then found a working network and should work without errors.
  • If the glow does not stop, however, you will have to take action yourself, as this indicates a problem with your Wi-Fi network.
  • Check if your WLAN network is working properly and fix it if necessary.
  • Restart your router or hotspot and your Amazon Echo. To do this, you can briefly disconnect each device from the mains and reconnect it.
  • If you have changed the settings of your Wi-Fi network, you will need to set it up again in the Alexa app.
  • A new electronic device near your Echo or router may be interfering with Wi-Fi reception. Also, if you have changed the location of your Echo or router, this may interfere with Wi-Fi reception.
