Wall-mounting the TV: how to do it right

by Pramith

Mounting the TV on the wall is a popular way to save space and enhance your own TV experience. However, there are a few important things to consider to ensure that the TV hangs safely and stably

Important preparations to mount a TV on the wall

Before you can mount your TV on the wall, you should take a few preparatory measures.

  • Check if your wall is suitable for mounting the TV. Concrete, masonry and brick walls are best, while drywall is usually not suitable for mounting TVs.
  • Measure the TV and make sure it has enough space on the wall and that the wall is strong enough to support the weight. Keep in mind that the TV not only has its own weight, but also the weight of the mount and possibly additional components such as soundbars.
  • Make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials before you start mounting the TV. These include a line finder, a drill, screws and dowels, a screwdriver and possibly a spirit level.
  • For aesthetic reasons, hide all cables leading from the TV to other appliances. You can use cable ducts for this purpose, for example.
  • Read the TV and wall mount instructions carefully to make sure you follow all the steps correctly and observe all safety instructions.

How to mount your TV on the wall

Before mounting the TV, use a pipe locator to find the joists in the wall. These are the load-bearing elements that take the weight of the TV.

  • Place the wall bracket where you want it on the wall and mark the screw holes with a pencil.
  • Drill the screw holes in the marked locations and place dowels in the holes.
  • Fix the wall bracket to the wall with screws by tightening them with the screwdriver. Make sure that the wall bracket is securely and stably fastened.
  • Place the TV in the bracket and fix it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Make sure the TV is securely and stably attached and that all cables are neatly routed.
