A cold beer is good for you, especially on warm summer days. But if you haven’t chilled the drink in time, you have to use special tricks. We show you how to cool your beer to a pleasant drinking temperature in just 120 seconds.

Cold beer in no time: How it works with salt and ice cubes

Studies have shown that beer tastes best at around 8 degrees Celsius. The most accurate way to achieve this is to store the drink in the fridge and take it out a few minutes before drinking. However, there is also a way to cool down warm beer in about 120 seconds:

You need ice cubes, table salt and a large bowl for the trick. If you want to cool several bottles at once, you can also use a bucket.

  • Place the bottles in the bowl or bucket and cover them as much as possible with the ice cubes.
  • Finally sprinkle plenty of salt over the ice cubes and wait around two to three minutes.
  • When the salt hits the ice cubes, a chemical reaction takes place that requires energy. This removes the heat from the beer and it is ice cold within a few minutes.

There are many tips on the web on how to cool down your beer in a short time. Only the trick with ice cubes and salt works really effectively. If you have a little more time, you can also cool the drink in another way.

  • The classic place for warm beer is probably the freezer. Depending on the initial temperature, you put the bottles in for about 15 to 20 minutes and can then enjoy a pleasantly cool drink. But beware: if you forget the bottles, the liquid will freeze and the glass will crack. So better set a timer as a reminder.
  • If you’re going to the lake with friends, you may not have a fridge on site, but you’ll have the cool water. If you put your beer in the water on the shore, you won’t get it ice cold, but at least you’ll prevent it from heating up unnecessarily in the sun.
  • A cool gadget if you want to chill a whole crate of beer at once is the pre-formed ice block. You fill the mould with water in advance and freeze it. When needed, you can then take the finished ice block out of the freezer and place it on top of the crate of beer. Thanks to the special mould, the ice makes contact with all 20 bottles and cools them down noticeably.
