Spotify Duo – Use the music provider in pairs

by Corinna

If you want to use Spotify as a couple, this only works with a Spotify Duo Premium account. We’ll show you exactly what that costs and what free alternatives there are.

Instructions: Using Spotify as a couple with multiple devices

If you use a Spotify premium account, you can log in on as many devices as you like at the same time. However, you can only play music on one device at a time.

  • If you start your music on a second device, the music stops on the first device. However, you can get around this by making your desired music available offline on a smartphone or tablet and using Spotify without an internet connection.
  • If two of you want to listen to unlimited music at any time, this is not possible via a single account. If you live in the same household, you can get a “Spotify Duo” account for the two of you. The costs for this are 14.99 euros per month. In comparison, a single premium account costs 10.99 euros per person.
  • You can book the Duo subscription on the following Spotify website. After payment, you can invite the second person to use the subscription. You will only be billed via the person who has taken out the subscription. You must then share the costs privately on your own.
  • If you want to use Spotify with more than two people, you can go for Spotify Premium Family. Here you pay 17.99 euros per family instead of 10.99 euros per person per month. Your family can consist of up to 6 people. If there is any suspicion of misuse, Spotify checks whether these people also live in the same household. This means that you cannot officially use Spotify Premium Family with friends.
