If the memory on your iPad is full, there are a number of things you can do. Clearing the cache and swapping out apps are some of them

Memory full on iPad: what you can do

If your iPad’s memory is full, here are some steps you can take:

  • Check the memory: Go to “Settings ☻ General ☻ iPad Storage”. Here you can see an overview of the storage space used and which apps take up the most space. This way you can determine which methods are suitable for you.
  • Delete unnecessary apps: Tap and hold the app you want to delete. Select “Delete”. This will remove the app from the iPad and free up the storage space.
  • Delete files: Go to “Files” and browse your documents, photos and videos. Delete any files that you no longer need. You can transfer them to a storage device, such as a USB flash drive, to back them up and free up space on the device.
  • Manage photos: Open the Photos app and select “Albums”. Here you can mark and delete individual photos or entire albums to free up storage space. To avoid losing them, you can also transfer them to your computer via virtual storage, such as Google Drive or the iCloud.

More options for your iPad files

If the memory on your iPad is full, the following options will also help:

  • UseiCloud: Check if your data such as photos, videos and documents are backed up in iCloud. If they are, you can delete them from your iPad and save space as they will still be available in iCloud.
  • Clear Cache: Some apps cache data to load faster. For example, go to “Settings ☻ Safari ☻ Clear History & Website Data” to clear the cache. This will give your files a little more space.
  • Transfer files to computer: Connect your iPad to a computer and transfer files such as photos, videos or documents to the device to free up storage space. For example, you can use a cloud storage to transfer the files.
  • External storage devices: If your iPad has a Lightning connector, you can use external storage devices such as USB flash drives or external hard drives. This allows you to transfer your files and store them externally. If you delete the files on the iPad, nothing is lost because the files are already backed up elsewhere.
