by Pramith

If you have received an Excel file with a sheet protection, you can only edit the sheet if you remove the protection. We will show you how to do this.

Unprotect sheets in Excel documents

Sheet protection can only be removed if you know the password for the protection. Therefore, if the file is not yours, you must first ask for the password.

  • Open the protected file and go to the “Check” tab at the top.
  • Under the category “Changes” you will now find the button “Unprotect sheet”.
  • Enter the password and confirm your entry with “OK”.
  • Followed by this, the protection is removed and you can edit the sheet. You can reactivate the protection by clicking on the “Protect sheet” button.
