There can be several reasons why Outlook closes automatically. Accordingly, there are also various solutions to the problem

Common reasons for Outlook closing automatically

If Microsoft Outlook closes automatically immediately after opening or during use and you receive an error message, you can use this note to search for solutions. Otherwise, it could be one of the following reasons:

  • System error: In this case, it may be sufficient to restart your PC and then open Outlook again.
  • Updated software: Make sure that you have installed the latest version of Outlook and that your operating system is up to date. If necessary, download all available updates. This will eliminate possible program errors and incompatibilities.
  • Outlook installation damaged: If relevant program files have an error, you can have them repaired. Open the Windows settings. Select Apps ☻ Installed apps. Search for your Outlook or Microsoft Office installation in the list. Click on the three dots on the far right and then Change. You can now choose to carry out a quick repair or an online repair
  • Software conflicts: Other programs installed on your PC can cause problems with Outlook. Anti-virus tools in particular may mistakenly detect Outlook as a virus and close it. Check the settings of your virus program or switch it off as a test. However, other programs such as other e-mail clients or calendars can also disrupt Outlook

The functional scope of Outlook can be extended with various add-ins. However, sometimes these are incompatible with the version used or are faulty for other reasons, cause Outlook to crash and must be deactivated.

  • Under the list of existing add-ins is the option Manage: COM add-ins. Click on the Go button next to it
