PowerPoint: Animating a table – how to do it

by Pramith

With PowerPoint you can animate tables with just a few clicks. In this practical tip you will learn how to do this and which steps are necessary.

How to animate a table in PowerPoint

In order to animate a table, you must first save it as an image.

  • Once you have created your table, right-click on the table border and select “Save as graphic” from the context menu.
  • Mark and copy the table. Now delete your table and replace it with the graphic you just saved – or create a new slide and paste it into it.
  • To do this, click on the “Insert” button. Here, select the option “Insert content” and there “Image: Extended metafile”.
    • Now click on the inserted image with the right mouse button and select “Group” ☻ “Ungroup”. Now a security question opens. Confirm this with “Yes”.
    • To finally split the image into its individual components, right-click the image again and select “Group” ☻ “Ungroup” again.
    • Now you can group parts of the table again to animate them. For example, you can let the contents fly in row by row. To do this, click on “Animations” in the menu, select the desired animation and the effect option.
