In Firefox, you have the option of having a website translated automatically. This works via add-ons or directly via the browser function.

Translate websites automatically in Firefox: This is how it works with an add-on

Translate Web Pages helps you to translate web pages in the Firefox browser.

  • Click on “Add-ons and Themes” via the menu icon at the top right of the screen. Under “Translate Web Pages”, select the “Properties” item
  • Alternatively, you can enter the name of the “Translate Web Pages” function in the “Search for more add-ons” search field. Then click on “Add to Firefox”.
  • The function is now integrated in Firefox. Under the “General” tab, check the “Translate immediately” box when the page is loaded.
  • Under “Normal” you can specify whether the translation should be displayed in the current tab or in a new tab. Alternatively, you can also open a new window. Finally, confirm the settings with “OK”.

Use the integrated translation function in Firefox: How it works

From version 188, Firefox has an integrated function that helps you to translate websites without having to use an add-on. If necessary, update your browser to access the translation.

  • Open the browser. Click on the menu icon with the three horizontal lines in the top right-hand corner of the browser window.
  • Select “Settings” from the drop-down menu. Scroll down and click on “General” in the left sidebar. Look for the “Language and Appearance” option and click “Settings”
  • Now define the desired settings regarding language and translations.
  • If you visit a website that is displayed in a language other than your default language, an additional symbol with an A will appear in the address bar of the URL. Here you can select whether and in which language the translation should take place.
