Setting up Apple TV – this is how it works

by Michaela

You can set up your Apple TV in just a few steps. In this practical tip, we will show you how to proceed and what you need to bear in mind.

Step 1: Unpack, connect and set up your Apple TV

In order to set up the Apple TV, you must of course first unpack it and connect it to the power.

  • Included in the package is the Apple TV, a power cable, and the remote control that comes with it.
  • You will need to purchase an HDMI cable separately. Note that you will need an HDMI 2.0 cable or higher for the Apple TV 4K.
  • When the requirements are met, remove the film from the Apple TV and connect the device to the power. Then connect the Apple TV to your TV using the HDMI cable.
  • Turn on the Apple TV and your TV to start the setup.

Step 2: Set up language, network and devices

After you have turned on the Apple TV, you can set your language.

  • Navigate down with the Apple remote control and select “German”.
  • Connect the Apple TV to your network. This is easiest if you already have an Apple device connected to the Wi-Fi. Then select the option “Set with device”.
  • Turn on Bluetooth on the Apple device and connect to the Apple TV. When connected, all Apple credentials and network connection will be automatically applied.
  • You can also set up your machine without an Apple device. To do this, select the “Configure manually” option.
  • The Apple TV will then search for networks manually. Select your network and enter the password. If no Wi-Fi network is available, connect the Apple TV to your router via LAN cable.
  • After the connection is established, log in with your Apple ID.

Step 3: Adjust settings

At the end of the setup, you can adjust more settings.

  • This allows you to enable or disable location services. This is useful if you want to use services like Lieferando on the Apple TV.
  • You can also choose whether you want to anonymously send usage statistics to Apple.
  • Once you have agreed to the Apple TV terms and conditions, you can use the Apple TV.
