by Flo

If you cannot solve a problem on your device with Android 10 or Android Q, you should perform a reset. We will show you how to perform a soft or hard reset in the following practical tip.

Android 10: How to perform a soft reset

A soft reset is a simple form of resetting without data loss. In this case, the smartphone or tablet is only restarted and various internal data is cleaned. Many problems can already be solved in this way.

  • For example, it can be helpful if your smartphone has hung up or an app is not working properly.
  • If you can still operate your smartphone, press the power button for a few seconds until you can select different options.
  • Here you can tap “Switch off” and after the process, switch the device back on with the power button.
  • Some manufacturers have integrated the option “Restart”, which also automatically restarts the unit.
  • If you can no longer make any entries on your smartphone, you must initiate the soft reset with a key combination.
  • To do this, press the Power button and the Volume down button on your Android device simultaneously for about five seconds.
  • Some manufacturers, such as Motorola, require you to use the Volume Up button instead of the Volume Down button.
  • Your smartphone should now turn off and turn on again shortly.

Android 10 Hard Reset: how to reset your smartphone

Unlike a soft reset, a hard reset deletes all stored data and returns the smartphone to factory settings.

Be sure to back up all your important data before resetting your smartphone

  • To reset your smartphone, go to the settings and then navigate to “Reset options” via the “System” ☻ “Advanced” items. The exact names can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.
  • Now select “Erase all data” and confirm this again. Your smartphone will now be reset.
  • You can also perform a hard reset with a key combination.
  • To do this, press the Power button and Volume up button at the same time until the manufacturer’s logo appears on the display.
  • A menu should appear. Navigate to “wipe data/factory reset” using the volume buttons. To select, press the power button.
  • In the next menu, go to the item “yes — delete all user data” and confirm it again by pressing the power button.
  • This initiates the reset process. This may take some time.
  • Now the same menu appears. This time you need to go to “reboot system now” and click on the power button to initiate the boot up.
  • Now the process is complete and your smartphone has been reset.
