If you want to delete your Telegram account, it only takes a few clicks. This will irrevocably remove all your data from Telegram’s servers
Instructions: Delete Telegram account
You can’t delete your Telegram account within the app, you have to visit the website for that.
- Open the following Telegram website to request account deletion.
- Enter your mobile number here and click the “Next” button.
- You will now receive a message in the Telegram app with a code.
- Then enter the code on the website and click on the “Sign In” button.
- Click on the “Delete My Account” button at the bottom and confirm with “Yes, delete my account”.
- You will now be automatically logged out of Telegram and your account will be deleted.
Messenger account deleted: what happens now
Once you’ve deleted your account on Telegram, there’s no going back.
- All messages, pictures, videos and other information will be removed from the servers. Groups that still have active members will continue to exist. Their name will no longer appear on Telegram. Messages that have already been sent still exist on the devices of your chat or group chat partners. However, you will no longer be shown as the author of your own messages.
- If you want to create a new account on Telegram, this is usually not a problem. However, you may have to wait a few minutes to hours before a new registration with the same mobile number is possible again.
- Tip: If you want to use Telegram on your new mobile phone, it is not necessary to delete the account. You can even take your chats with you to the new phone.
