Connect printer with laptop – this is how it works

by Corinna

There are a few ways how to connect your laptop with the printer, for example by USB cable or via W-LAN.

This is how you connect your laptop to the printer

If you want to connect your laptop to the printer via a USB cable, this is a bit inconvenient. The more convenient option, with which you don’t even have to run to the printer, is via WLAN.

  • USB cable: Simply connect your laptop to the printer via cable. After that, the device will show up in your Windows bar. You will be prompted to install the driver, after which you can open the printer and start your print job. However, some modern laptops no longer have a USB port.
  • WLAN: Connecting via WLAN is very common, as this method is extremely convenient. First, go into the settings of your printer. You do this directly on the printer’s display. Then you need to go into the “Network” or “Connections” option to connect to the WLAN.
  • Now enter your WLAN password. Your notebook must be connected in the same network.
  • With your laptop, now go to “Control Panel”, “Hardware and Sound”, “Devices and Printers”. Under “Add Printer”, select the appropriate device.
  • Then you need to install the driver for your printer. Usually, a message will appear with an appropriate note and installation instructions. Follow these instructions.
  • Now you can start your print jobs. In Microsoft Word, you can access your printer directly in the program under “Print”.
