Word: Paste copied text unformatted

by Mike

How to paste unformatted text copied from the clipboard into Microsoft Word is explained here. This way, formatting such as fonts, italics or HTML links are not taken into account in your Word document

Copy-paste in Word texts without formatting

Depending on where the text in your clipboard comes from, Word has different options for formatting a pasted text passage. When copying from other programmes, e.g. web pages from the browser, the original formatting is usually undesirable. You can make the necessary settings via the Word options:

  • Open the “File” tab and then the “Options”. In the opened menu window (“Word Options”) click on “Advanced”.
  • The Advanced Options are displayed. Under “Cut, Copy and Paste” you can now select the desired settings.
  • In the combo box “Paste from other programmes”, change the setting to “Copy only the text”. If desired, you can also use other combo boxes to regulate the behaviour when pasting within Word documents. Confirm with “OK”.
