Acupressure can help you lose weight. Through targeted pressure point massage, you can stimulate your metabolism and thus promote your weight loss process in a natural way.
Five acupressure points for losing weight
Acupressure is a healing technique from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is based on the same energetic principles as acupuncture, but without needles. Instead, certain points on the meridians, the body’s energy channels, are stimulated by applying pressure with fingers or tools in order to balance the flow of energy. Here are five points to support your weight loss efforts
.
- The “center of man” is located between the upper lip and nose. By pressing this point for 90 seconds, you can combat cravings. This should make your appetite and feeling of hunger disappear. Please note that the recommended pressure time is always a guideline and you can adjust it individually. Be careful not to irritate your skin excessively.
- The “Extinguishing Lake” is centered on the outside of your upper arm. Press it for 30 seconds and a feeling of fullness should set in;
- The “United Valleys” point, also known as LI4, is located in the hollow between the thumb and index finger and if this point is pressed for four minutes, it stimulates the metabolism and reduces cravings. This point is primarily used in pain therapy, but its effect on fat metabolism is not considered to be clearly proven.
- The “Decorated Gate” is located at the level of the eleventh rib, approximately where the hanging elbows touch the skin. When pressed for three minutes, the liver’s fat metabolism is stimulated;
- The so-called “divine equanimity” can be found four fingers wide below the hollow under the kneecap. During a five-minute pressing session, the point should relieve you of the stress that would otherwise cause you to eat fatty and sweet foods;
- An acupressure clamp can help you to stimulate the corresponding points.
- Important: Acupressure alone is unlikely to bring lasting weight loss results. It is therefore important that you implement a change in diet and exercise into your daily routine. Consider acupressure as a supportive measure.
Acupressure – how it works
There are studies that cast doubt on the effect and others that attest to the effectiveness of acupressure. The fact is that acupressure, like acupuncture, uses nerve stimuli to activate certain regions in the brain and thus trigger reactions. We should be able to take advantage of these reactions to lose weight.
- Acupressure comes from China and is even older than acupuncture
- The basis of the practice is the so-called meridians, i.e. the energy pathways in your body. According to the practitioners, by pressing these meridians, you release the blockages in the energy pathways so that your body can function better again.
- The existence of these meridians has not been proven in the Western medical sense. From this perspective, the effect is rather explained via nervous reflex arcs;
- The great strength of acupressure is that you do not need any aids and can work on yourself at home
