If Outlook no longer starts, this can have several causes. We will show you how to get Outlook up and running again.
Outlook no longer starts – test in Safe Mode
- Press the [Windows] and [R] keys at the same time so that the “Run” command opens.
- Enter “outlook.exe /safe” and confirm with “OK”. Outlook will then start in safe mode.
- If Outlook still does not work, continue reading in the next paragraph. If Outlook starts, the problem is with the add-ins.
- Click on the “File” tab at the top left of Outlook and select the “Options” there.
- Switch to the “Add-Ins” on the left and click on the “Go to” button at the bottom.
- Remove all add-ins here that have nothing to do with Microsoft or Outlook and confirm with “OK”.
- Then restart Outlook. If the programme still does not work, switch off all add-ins.
Other options to get the mail programme working again

- Microsoft has developed its own repair service for Outlook. Download the tool and start it. Windows then automatically searches for errors in Outlook and tries to solve them. Windows 8 users download the Fix it Tool – Win 8, if you are using an older version of Windows, use this Fix it Tool.
- If you are still unable to solve the problem, you can repair Outlook via the Control Panel. You can find instructions in the practical tip “Uninstalling Windows programs” and in the video.
