Submit a complaint to McDonald’s
McDonald’s offers several options for handling complaints, such as refunds, replacement products, or vouchers. The key is to follow the correct procedure and communicate clearly with customer service.
- Immediate complaint on-site: If a product is defective or incomplete, you should file a complaint directly at the restaurant and, if possible, before consuming it—this significantly increases the chance of a replacement or refund. Replacement products are usually offered without hassle and in a accommodating manner, as long as the product has not been touched or has barely been touched.
- Complaints after leaving the restaurant: If an immediate complaint is not possible, the complaint can also be submitted later through McDonald’s customer service, preferably with a receipt or order slip. Complaints can be submitted via email, online contact form, or by phone.
All necessary details (order number, date, description of the problem) should be included to facilitate processing.
- Handling of Refunds and Vouchers: In the case of valid complaints, replacement products or vouchers are usually offered; direct refunds are less common. In the past, it was more common to receive vouchers for valid complaints; due to abuse, this is now less common. Digital orders and app orders can present additional hurdles, as refunds are usually processed through store or branch management and may require more persistence.
- Tips for effective complaints: Describe the problem objectively, concisely, and politely, and propose specific solutions (e.g., replacement, gift card, refund). Include relevant evidence such as photos, receipts, or screenshots. Request a response within a reasonable timeframe, and if there is no response, contact other (official) bodies such as the Consumer Protection Agency or use online dispute resolution.
