Refund on Ebay – here’s how

by Michaela

If you want to get a refund on Ebay, you have to go through the complete process of returning the item. We’ll show you step by step how it works

Step 1: Request a return from Ebay

Returns are not always possible on Ebay. Commercial sellers must and private sellers can offer a return, but the latter usually do not. The deadline for a return is often two weeks.

  • Open the Ebay website and click on “My Ebay” at the top right. Find the item you bought and click the “Return this item” button on the right (see picture). Select a reason and submit the order.
  • After you have placed the return order, the seller will contact you and clarify who has to bear the costs of the return. For Plus items, you will receive the return label free of charge from Ebay. If you don’t get it from the seller, you can buy it yourself through Ebay.

Step 2: Get a refund from Ebay

No later than five days after you start the return, you should also send the package. And no later than six days after the package is received by the seller, you should receive your refund.

    • If you paid for the item with PayPal, you will receive your money in your PayPal account. For other payment methods, you will need to confirm receipt of the refund on Ebay. You will have another 10 days to do this.
Tip: If the seller does not bear the costs of the return and you paid for the item via PayPal, you can have the costs of the return refunded by PayPal.
